The Group’s Shanghai flagship project HKRI Taikoo Hui launched its winter campaign 2025 “Oh là là Baixiangxiang”. In collaboration with Meta Media and artist Ms. Cai Yaling, HKRI Taikoo Hui presents a large-scale art installation “Dialogue”, inviting the public to explore the cultural connections and resonance between Shanghai and Paris across memory, heritage, and spirit.
Situated at the Atrium, LG1, the installation features two light installations inspired by the Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower and Paris’s Eiffel Tower, positioned to face each other in symbolic dialogue. Suspended within are Shanghai’s magnolia and France’s iris - crafted by Ms. Cai Yaling, an artist with both Chinese and French creative background. The delicate floral forms stand in contrast to the solid metal towers, which symbolise deep-rooted cultural foundations and heritage. Together, the city flowers represent the strength and continuity of local culture.
The project also incorporated the “Shanghai Modeng” typeface, the first Chinese font inspired by Shanghai’s unique character and spirit. This design integrated cultural symbols, such as languages, city flowers and landmarks from the two cities, creating an international cultural journey for all.
Throughout the years, HKRI Taikoo Hui has curated a series of Sino French cultural events, fostering collaboration between the creative industries of Shanghai and Paris. Highlights include the Michelin Food Festival; immersive VR exhibitions named “Tonight with the Impressionists: Paris 1874” and “Eternal Notre-Dame”, which were co presented with French public and private institutions together with The VERS; as well as the grand opening of Louis Vuitton’s The Louis. Through these initiatives, HKRI Taikoo Hui continues to strengthen its role as a premier platform for Sino-French cultural engagement.
Shimen Road (No.1) and Weihai Road Upgrades Completed to Increase Urban Vitality
Concurrently, the enhancement works along Shimen Road (No.1) and Weihai Road at HKRI Taikoo Hui were completed. The project has expanded pavement and introduced additional greenery between pedestrian and vehicular zones - enhancing the streetscape while providing natural buffering and noise reduction benefits.
To further enrich the comfort of public spaces, green areas have been equipped with thoughtfully designed benches. The benches were crafted from terrazzo recycled from old paving stones and carbon negative timber. Adapting to ergonomic principles and diverse user needs, the design incorporates convenient coffee tabletops, cane holders and pet leash hooks. In this way, the initiative not only advanced sustainable principles but also responds to the practical requirements of a wide range of users.
