The Group’s corporate volunteer team “HKRI Love & Share” collaborated with “Little Woods Nature Education” to organise a parent-child eco-tour in Discovery Bay. Guided by graduates in Ecology and Biodiversity from Hong Kong University, nearly 40 parents and children participated in an enriching and immersive experience at Discovery Bay Central Park, home to Hong Kong’s first urban oasis project “DBee Oasis”.
The DBee Oasis provides essential floral and water sources for over 50 species of pollinators. The Blossom Tower is crafted from natural materials, featuring plants of native species. The establishment of the DBee Oasis is set to make a positively splendid impact within a two-kilometre radius, benefiting areas such as the Siu Ho Wan Bus Depot and Discovery Bay Golf Club.
During the eco-tour, equipped with binoculars, young explorers embarked on guided observations of wild life in their natural habitat, studying the activities of insects and animals, as well as various plant species. They also completed an activity worksheet in an interactive manner. This hands‑on exploration offered participants a unique opportunity to witness ecological interdependence firsthand, deepening their understanding of the delicate balance between pollinators, plants, and the wider environment.
Parents and children alike were fascinated by the tour and their discoveries, and actively engaged in the activities. They gained valuable insights into the importance of biodiversity and the unique role each species plays in sustaining healthy ecosystems.
In addition to the eco-tour, participants joined the Pollinator Insect Paper Specimen Workshop, where they created lifelike paper insect specimens - an innovative way to preserve the beauty of wild insects without impacting nature.
