Discovery Bay Successfully Supported the Hong Kong, China Ice Hockey Association in Securing Hosting Rights for Three Events of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

Discovery Bay is honoured to have obtained the hosting rights for the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship. From March to April, the Discovery Bay Ice Rink is set to host three official IIHF tournaments, welcoming more than 400 athletes, coaches, referees and staff members from 14 countries and regions to Hong Kong for this prestigious event, dubbed as the “Olympics of Ice Hockey”.


The first tournament, the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Men's World Championship Division III Group A, was successfully held from 2-8 March. The opening ceremony featured a dazzling drone show accompanied by a live orchestral performance, setting a spectacular tone for the tournaments.


Following a series of intense competitions, Uzbekistan secured the gold medal and advanced to the 2027 U18 Men's World Championship Division II Group B. Team Hong Kong also delivered an impressive performance, claiming a silver medal. At just 15 years old, Mr. Rexton Tsui was distinguished with the Best Goalkeeper award - a proud moment for Hong Kong.


The first championship concluded successfully, with two further IIHF events scheduled to take place. The Women’s Division II Group B will run from 30 March to 5 April, followed by the Men’s Division III Group B from 13 to 19 April.

Additionally, high‑performance projectors and atmospheric equipment have been installed to enrich lighting effects on ice and create a more dramatic setting, elevating the spectator experience. DB Plaza, the mall adjacent to the rink, has also been adapted with spacious temporary changing facilities to provide participants with ample, high‑quality preparation space.
