Group-Wide Recycling: From Seasonal Recycling to Year-Round Circularity
The Group is dedicated to promoting green living concepts by making comprehensive recycling practices highly accessible and engaging for all stakeholders. This year, the Group extended its support from Food Grace’s Mooncake Recycling Campaign to canned food collection, inviting colleague to donate surplus food to underprivileged families through Food Grace.
While the Mid-Autumn initiative is seasonal in nature, it reflects a much broader commitment to circularity and resource recovery across the Group. Across The Group's hotels, properties and offices, the Group continues to collect and recycle a wide range of materials, including plastics, metals, wastepaper, beverage cartons, polyfoam, glass bottles, contact lens packaging, used clothes and toys, helping divert waste from landfill year-round.
By combining festive giving with everyday recycling, this initiative reflects the Group’s sustainability philosophy across business units and locations, connecting Discovery Bay, HKRI Taikoo Hui and the hotel operations in a concerted effort to advance circular economy goals. In Discovery Bay, a solar-powered clothes-recycling unit, and food-waste composters first introduced back in 2012, make participation simple and convenient.
A Comprehensive Recycling Programme
Over 2025/26, the Group achieved an overall 69% waste diversion rate, underpinned by a closed-loop system:
From plate to power: Under DB Food Waste Collection programme, food waste is delivered to the nearby O·PARK1, where it is converted into biogas for electricity generation, while the residual compost is returned to residents for planting and landscaping.
Second lives: Logs fallen due to typhoon damage is repurposed to furniture in public areas, while used coffee grounds and offcut fabric are upcycled into soap and household goods at staff and resident workshops.
Awareness in action: High-profile stakeholder engagement schemes keep sustainability visible, including the DB ESG Discovery Fair, the year-round education programme related to Hong Kong’s first urgan oasis for pollinators - DBee Oasis, HKRI Taikoo Hui’s recycling exhibition, and The Sukhothai Bangkok’s eco-fashion show, where staff repurposed everyday waste into stylish costumes.
Seasonal: The Mid-Autumn mooncake drive with Food Grace is complemented by red-packet recycling with Greeners Action after Chinese New Year, turning festive occasions into part of a continuous cycle of reuse and sharing.
The Group will continue to expand its recycling practices and strengthen partnerships with community organisations, with the aim of turning each festive campaign into lasting everyday habits that support a more sustainable future.
